Lanolin is a by-product of wool which has a valuable use within the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry such as skin care products. Lanolin is a wax secreted by sheep to protect their wool and skin from rain and other climate conditions and the environment.
During the scouring process, wool is washed with water and detergants at high temperatures. This process washes out the lanolin from the wool. The lanolin is then filtered out of the water, cleaned and stored in air tight containers.
